The BCCI, while appreciative of the immediate treatment given to Pant at the two hospitals in Uttarakhand, preferred to have his injuries treated by the board’s own empanelled medical team. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Luis Palma could also be on the verge of leaving the Glasgow giants, with Rayo Vallecano seemingly readying a loan to buy offer to sign the winger this month after a tricky spell at Celtic Park.

These exits could set the stage for more incomings in Scotland, with a loan deal for former Celtic captain Kieran Tierney being mooted amid his lack of gametime at Arsenal, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign as things stand.

Another star that they are seemingly keen to fight off competition to sign is Ivorian winger Bazoumana Touré, who is currently starring at Swedish side Hammarby and has reportedly impressed scouts across Europe, including Celtic’s. Now, another injection of cash could help them fund their January business.

Defender set to leave with medical booked

That comes as reports from ESPN in Brazil [Via Sport Witness] claim that Celtic defender Alexandro Bernabei is set to leave the club permanently in the coming days, with a medical even having been tentatively scheduled.

The Argentine defender has spent the last year out on loan with SC Internacional. A key figure, he was described as a “sensation” in Brazil by South American expert Tim Vickery, contributing three goals and five assists during his time in Brazil.

Now back at Celtic, the two clubs have been negotiating his exit on a permanent basis, with previous reports suggesting that Celtic were keen to hold out for a fee as high as £10m.

However, the two clubs appear to have reached a compromise for the 24-year-old Argentine, with the latest report claiming that an agreement has been struck “€4.5m in fixed fees” plus “an additional €500,000 in bonuses”, taking the potential deal just over the £4m mark and representing a minor profit on the £3.6m Celtic shelled out for him in 2022.

It is also added that, given an agreement has been reached, “the fullback is expected to arrive in Brazil at the ‘beginning of next week’ to undergo medical tests and sign the contract with Internacional”, suggesting that a deal could be wrapped up midway through the January transfer window, giving Celtic time to reinvest the money received from his sale.

With Tierney a potential arrival at left-back and Bernabei struggling during his time at Celtic, it appears to be a perfect scenario for all parties.

Aston Villa have had a very stop-start beginning to this campaign, winning eight games, drawing four games, and losing six in their opening 18 Premier League fixtures.

The Villans have scored 26 goals in their 18 Premier League games (ranked 11th in the division for goals scored), which looks poor in comparison to last season, where they scored 76 goals in 38 games (ranked 6th in the division for this metric).

Of their 26 goals so far this season, Jhon Duran and Ollie Watkins have the fair share, scoring 14 (seven each) of the 26 goals. But after last summer, where Duran attracted a lot of attention from other clubs – most notably West Ham United – Villa could be on high alert, should Duran want a move to secure consistent minutes.

With the January window just around the corner, Unai Emery and the Villa board will be compiling a list of potential replacements should Duran be sold, and one name in particular is already being touted in the media.

Aston Villa's search for a striker

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Atalanta forward, Mateo Retegui. The reports suggest the Italian outfit are not prioritising the sale of their player, but an offer of around €55m (£46m) would ‘force’ them to consider it.

Other Italian clubs are reportedly interested should the forward become available, with Roma, Napoli and Juventus all being mentioned. But if Duran does leave Villa in the January window, the Italian could be the perfect replacement to challenge Watkins.

The 25-year-old – who Villa are said to have sent scouts to watch in recent times – has made 25 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring 14 goals, providing four assists, and totalling 1,393 minutes played.

How Retegui compares to Duran

Compared to Watkins, Duran and Retegui offer a different type of profile, using their box presence and physicality to bully defenders, and get on the end of attacking moves, providing that finishing touch. On the other hand, Watkins is more of a channel runner, looking to stretch teams.

When comparing the three strikers, you can see Watkins offers more in the way of progressive carrying, and xAG (expected assisted goals) which matches the description used earlier for him, as more of a channel runner who gets involved in all phases.

However, Duran and Retegui, as advertised earlier on, have high shot volume, good aerial duel numbers, and are finishing at a very clinical level, getting on the end of attacking chances created for them, and helping to provide their side with key output.

If Aston Villa are to lose Duran, targeting someone like Retegui would be a good chance to retain the strike department dynamic for rotation in Premier League and Champions League fixtures, whilst keeping two different striker profiles at the club, in order to allow Emery to pick his forward based on game plan.

Described as the “perfect striker” by national team boss, Luciano Spalletti, the former Geno man could be a ‘perfect’ addition for those at Villa Park.

Liverpool have set their sights on signing a “sensation” of a defender, with manager Arne Slot said to be a huge admirer, according to a report.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, the Reds continue to be linked with new signings, including Juventus wonderkid Kenan Yildiz and FC Porto right-back Martim Fernandes, who could be brought in to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

However, Slot’s most pressing concern is likely to be keeping hold of the star players he already has on Merseyside, and there has recently been a positive update regarding the future of Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has now dropped a major update, saying: “Talks remain ongoing between Liverpool and the representatives of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to give them new contracts.

Liverpool keen on Beukema

Although it appears as though Van Dijk could soon sign a new deal at Anfield, that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from looking at other centre-backs, and a report from TEAMtalk has now revealed they are interested in signing Bologna’s Sam Beukema.

Slot is seemingly a big fan of the 26-year-old, having been described as a long-term admirer, and the manager views him as a potential purchase for the summer of 2025, perhaps because Bologna have no desire to let him leave in January.

The Italian club will demand at least £20m to sanction his departure, amid growing interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs. However, the Reds could have the edge in negotiations, as the defender has already admitted he could see himself moving to the club, saying: “I was a fan of West Ham. I once visited Upton Park with my father and I was really impressed, because the atmosphere was similar to that of Feyenoord or Go Ahead Eagles.

“But there are so many fantastic teams in England, so if another great club like Liverpool came along I would be happy to go there one day.”

If Van Dijk does commit his future to the club, it may be difficult for Beukema to break up the Dutchman’s partnership with Ibrahima Konate, but there are signs he could be a quality signing.

The former AZ Alkmaar man was hailed as a “sensation” earlier this season, having cemented himself as a key player for Bologna in both the Serie A and the Champions League, while also captaining the side on two occasions.

The proposed £20m fee seems a little low for a player of the Dutchman’s quality, and the fact that Slot is a big fan is a very good sign that he could be a brilliant addition next summer.

One player who the Magpies have been linked with signing in recent days is Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush, who is enjoying a fantastic season for the Bundesliga club. Scouts are said to have been sent to watch the 25-year-old in action, having registered 18 goal contributions (11 goals and seven assists) in just 11 league appearances in 2024/25 to date.

In what would be a shock signing, in many ways, Paul Pogba has also emerged as a rumoured transfer target for Eddie Howe, with the 31-year-old available to play again in 2025 after completing a ban. The free agent has reportedly turned down Neecastle’s advances, though.

Miguel Almiron has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park plenty of times in recent months, with the Magpies targeting upgrades in his right-sided attacking role. One such figure is PSV Eindhoven ace Johan Bakayoko, who is a young winger with so much potential.

In terms of other attacking targets, Bournemouth hero Antoine Semenyo has been backed to join Newcastle, too, having matured into one of his side’s most important players. He is also predominantly right-sided, however, so it is unlikely that both he and Bakayoko would come in.

According to a new report from The Telegraph‘s Luke Edwards, Newcastle and PIF will let Almiron leave in the January window, allowing the £60,000-a-week winger to enjoy a new challenge in his career, possibly in Saudi Arabia.

The Paraguayan is happy to move on to pastures new and find another club, having increasingly struggled to become an important part of Howe’s plans at St James’ Park.

A January exit for Almiron makes complete sense of everyone involved, with the winger clearly no longer an influential figure at Newcastle, and understandably wanting more playing time at the age of 30.

He has always been a popular figure among Magpies supporters, such is his team ethic, but a lack of end product has too often been a problem, with only 30 goals coming his way in 216 appearances in a wide attacking role.

That said, Howe has always been a big fan Almiron, heaping praise on his “unique” style last year, saying: “He’s (Almiron) a unique footballer. I don’t think there’s anyone better at doing what he does – all energy, all action. I’d like to see his physical stats today because I’m sure they’d be through the roof.”
