Leeds now in active talks to sign £9m forward who wants Premier League move

Leeds United are now in active talks to sign an attacking addition worth £9m in the January transfer window, according to recent reports.

Farke: Calvert-Lewin on course to become "Leeds United hero"

When Leeds signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free deal fresh from his Everton exit in the summer, there were plenty of doubters. Now, however, he very much looks like one of the most in-form players in the Premier League and has barely put a foot wrong in front of goal since Daniel Farke changed to a 3-5-2 system.

It wasn’t so long ago that reports were indicating the worst for Farke. Some even went as far to suggest that he would be out of a job if he lost against Chelsea and Liverpool. By the time those fixtures had passed, though, the German had overseen victory over the Blues and a dramatic draw against the Premier League champions.

Leeds’ turnaround has been as unexpected as it has been sensational and they’re now on a run of just one defeat in their last five Premier League games.

In that run, Calvert-Lewin has scored six goals and sparked deserved praise from Farke, who told reporters: “Right now he’s on the on a path to be a top-class player for Leeds United and also a Leeds United hero.

“But you know my attitude – I don’t like to speak about quality and top-class players just after a few weeks or a good couple couple of months.

“You have to show this with consistency over the whole season. But if he keeps going in this way and keeps delivering, then we would speak about an outstanding season.”

As things stand, the Whites are six points clear of the dropzone and perfectly placed to welcome vital January reinforcements, should they please.

Leeds now in active talks to sign Ruben Vargas

As reported by TeamTalk, Leeds are now in active talks to sign Ruben Vargas from Sevilla next month. The Swiss winger reportedly wants to complete a move to the Premier League and intermediaries have been in contact with Leeds, as well as Sunderland and Bournemouth.

49ers masterclass: Leeds star looks like their best signing since Raphinha

This Leeds United star looks like the club’s best piece of business since they brought Raphinha to Elland Road.

Valued at around €10m (£9m) by Sevilla, the deal won’t come too cheap for those at Elland Road next month. Alas, it could be one worth chasing.

Aside from Calvert-Lewin, Farke’s forwards have struggled for goals throughout the campaign and it’s no secret that the former Everton forward has an extensive injury history. That makes an attacking addition crucial to the Whites’ survival chances.

Vargas could help the rest of Farke’s frontline kick on, having scored three goals and assisted another four in 12 La Liga games so far this season. Whilst his goalscoring record is not clinical, his creative spark would undoubtedly add another element to Leeds’ attack in the January transfer window.

Semenyo upgrade: Spurs pushing to sign £295k-p/w “superstar” for Frank

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to perform in the Premier League this season, but dans will be pleased to know that the Lewis Family have given Thomas Frank their backing, and they are willing to spend in the January transfer window.

How can Tottenham get better this winter? What have we learned in the overtures of the window? There is pressure on the board to deliver after Daniel Levy was relieved of his duties at the end of last season, and there are numerous holes about Frank’s squad that need to be plugged.

Talk of a new deal for defender Micky van de Ven is rising, but there remains an emphasis on adding quality to the front of the Spurs ship. With James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke all long-term absentees, expect movement there.

Who Spurs are targeting this January

Antoine Semenyo has rejected Tottenham. Enquiries have been made, proposals have been assembled, but the Bournemouth forward has declined the Lilywhite advances, instead honing in on a mid-season transfer to Manchester City.

The Ghanaian has scored eight goals and supplied three assists in the Premier League this season, and he can play across the frontline. He would have been perfect for Tottenham, but this City-bound switch could yet work in the Lilywhites’ favour.

That’s because Tottenham spy an opportunity to sign Omar Marmoush from Pep Guardiola’s side. According to transfer insider Mark Brus – as relayed by Caught Offside – the 26-year-old is set to be replaced by Semenyo, and he could leave the Etihad Stadium in 2026.

Man City signed Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for about £59m in January 2024, and after a strong start, he has fallen down the pecking order.

There is a real chance for Spurs to snap him up this winter, especially with ENIC getting ready to spend, with the north London side said to be ‘pushing to sign’ him.

Why Marmoush would be a "superstar" signing

Hailed as a “superstar” of a forward by Manchester City writer Radu Christian, Marmoush entered a sinking ship last season and proceeded to produce clinical performances in the Premier League, showcasing his class with a hat-trick against Newcastle United.

The Egyptian international scored 15 goals and supplied ten assists across 17 Bundesliga fixtures in 2024/25 before flying to England, and content creator Fiago regarded him as “one of the best strikers in the world” at that stage.

He has started only two Premier League games this season. This does not negate his brilliance, nor does it mean he is not among the cream of the division’s crop.

Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi against Man City's Omar Marmoush in the FA Cup final.

There’s a strong case to be made that the £295k-per-week talent is even better than Semenyo, and married up with a club who can help foster his talismanic qualities, he might even change that narrative before the current campaign is wrapped up.

After all, Marmoush might be on the fringes, but he still ranks among the top 5% of positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for goals scored per 90, as per FBref, bearing a comparable directness to Cherries star Semenyo.

It’s worth remembering that Marmoush arrived in a truly wretched point in Pep Guardiola’s Man City tenure, and he provided respite as the Spanish tactician worked toward steadying the ship. Now he has been cut adrift, and Tottenham must hand him a lifeline.

Last season, he proved his prolific and precise worth in the Premier League, maintaining creativity as he roved around the final third.

For a player who was awarded the 2024/25 Goal of the Season and is considered to be one of the most dangerous on the continent, he needs to be playing regular football, be it as a centre-forward, shadow striker or winger.

Tottenham can give him the platform he needs to remind everyone of his quality, and he might just let everyone know that he is a cut above someone like Semenyo.

Spurs could finally bin Brennan Johnson by signing "generational" £88m star

Tottenham need more impetus in attack ahead of the January transfer window.

Chelsea knocked back by target

Chelsea have failed in a second attempt to bring outgoing Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola to the club, according to Mirror Football.

The west London club do not have a permanent manager after dismissing Andre Villas Boas earlier in the season, with interim coach Roberto Di Matteo directing the team for the time being.

With Guardiola leaving the Catalan giants at the end of the campaign, Roman Abramovich has targeted the Blaugrana man as a top target to fill the Chelsea role.

The newspaper indicate that the Blues have offered the Spanish tactician a £12 million-a-year package, and promised him a bumper transfer kitty to add new players.

However, Guardiola is determined to take a year away from the game, and has reportedly refused the Premier League club’s advances.

The news is thought to be positive for Di Matteo, who now stands an excellent chance of being given the role in the Blues hotseat on a long-term basis.

Punjab seek to extend winning streak

Match facts

Jacques Kallis is yet to make a significant impact for Bangalore, especially in the bowling © AFP

The Big Picture

The relief was palpable in the Bangalore camp on Saturday after they finally registered their first victory at home, against the Deccan Chargers. A team of experienced internationals wasn’t expected to struggle early in the tournament, but at least they salvaged pride in a match which nearly fell out of their grasp in the final over. While they have every right to cherish the victory, it goes without saying that they would have to double their efforts against a team on a high, now with four consecutive wins. The Yuvraj Singh-led Kings XI Punjab have moulded into a dangerous unit and after two early defeats, are currently third in the points table, tied with three other teams on eight points. There’s little to separate the top four at this stage and it would be fair to say they start as favourites, despite playing away from home.

Watch out for …

… Kumar Sangakkara taking on Dale Steyn and Zaheer Khan. Sangakkara leads the run charts for Punjab with 203 in six games with two half-centuries. Steyn came back well after a pasting at the hands of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his first match to concede 20 runs in four overs. Zaheer is one of the leading wicket-takers in the tournament. Shaun Marsh would also be a tough nut to crack for Bangalore, like most Australians in this tournament.

Team news

Bangalore have in their ranks Cameron White, an Australian who can pack a punch with his big hitting. He was omitted after his team’s forgettable rout at the hands of Kolkata in the opening game of the tournament, but one would feel a player of his ability ought to get more opportunities. Jacques Kallis could face the axe after failing with the bat against Deccan and he hasn’t clicked with the ball either. It could be a gamble, as White is mainly a part-time legspinner and perhaps not the most reliable fifth-bowling option.Bangalore (probable) 1 Bharath Chipli, 2 Wasim Jaffer, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Rahul Dravid, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Cameron White, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Praveen Kumar, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Anil Kumble, 11 Dale Steyn.Punjab wouldn’t want to alter their winning combination. Depth in batting is one of their strengths and the lower order demonstrated that in the previous game. James Hopes had a poor outing with the ball after missing three games but Punjab should see that as a blip and play him, not least for what he can do up the order.Punjab: (probable) 1 Shaun Marsh, 2 James Hopes, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Mahela Jayawardene, 6 Karan Goel, 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 Piyush Chawla, 9 Sreesanth, 10 VRV Singh, 11 Gagandeep Singh.

Stats and trivia

  • White once held the record for the fastest Twenty20 century, off 55 balls.
  • Irfan Pathan is currently the leading wicket-taker in the IPL with 11 wickets.
  • Yuvraj’s six catches is the highest in the IPL so far.

    Quotes

“In Twenty20, no team is a big team. The team that plays better will emerge as winners. But they have a few good players and we will see what happens tomorrow.”
Praveen Kumar, the Bangalore allrounder, doesn’t think there are any favourites in Twenty20 cricket.

  • 'Mature' Warner ready for added responsibility

David Warner will speak with the Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland and hopes he can win over “the boss” as he has done the selectors and the board to become Steven Smith’s vice-captain.In the lead-up to the appointments of Smith and Warner, Sutherland had struck a notably lukewarm note about the vice-captain’s leadership credentials. “I don’t think that’s necessarily an obvious next step,” Sutherland had said in response to questions about whether Warner was an obvious candidate to be Smith’s vice-captain.It was Sutherland who spoke out most staunchly to decry Warner’s behaviour on the previous Ashes tour, describing the punch he swung at Joe Root as “a despicable thing” and offering stern warnings about the opening batsman’s future if he did not improve. Warner said he would speak with Sutherland at the next available opportunity and said he respected the chief executive’s opinion.”He’s our boss and I have to respect what he says,” Warner said. “But the board obviously approved me being vice-captain and I thank them for their support, trust and faith in myself to be under Steve and help Steve as much as I can with my knowledge of the game. We’ve still got a whole squad here and we see them all as leaders in their own right. James hasn’t been in touch. I’m sure I’ll get to speak to him at some stage.”It’s definitely a massive honour and a boyhood dream just to first to get your baggy green but to be recognised as a leader within the group and being named vice captain is obviously a massive thrill for myself and I know my family as well. Obviously it’s a tag that I’m going to have to live with day by day now. It’s an added responsibility and I’ll be doing everything I can to help Steve on the field and off the field.”I think the past 12-18 months I’ve shown how much I’ve matured. I’ve got a young family, I recently got married, I’m enjoying my off-field and I’m thoroughly enjoying my on-field performances as well. So for me it’s about me trying to help Steve as much as we can driving this team forward for the next five to 10 years.”Warner’s persona has been an evolving one, both on the field and away from the game. He has been working to find a middle ground between the aggressor and agent provocateur he has been in the past and the leader he must now become. He also spoke for how hard the team had worked and would continue to work under the new leadership duo.”I’ll still give the banter [within the squad]. Obviously in our team we sometimes we are serious, sometimes we do joke around a lot,” he said. “Each team needs a few characters and I see myself as being that character sometimes, and I will probably try and continue to be that funny person.”I think the way that I’ve been . . . a lot of my energy has gone on the field, and a lot of hard work has been going on in the nets as well. I don’t just speak for myself, I speak for the whole team. What people don’t see and don’t understand is how much preparation that goes into these tours. We have had a long tour. We’ve been on the road for a while. We went to the West Indies and we won there, we’ve come here and we’ve been disappointing.”But we’re giving 100% every time we walk out there. Every time we go to training our preparation is outstanding. You can’t fault anyone for their preparation … we’ve been beaten by a better team at the moment. We’ve got one Test to go and we’re going out there trying to prove what we’re actually capable of.”One thing Warner will not be able to do quite so often is get into verbal battles in the middle, and he said he would now be devoting far more of his energy to working alongside Smith in finding tactical solutions. “Now, with a bit more responsibility, I’ll be trying to help Steve as much as I can,” he said.”You’re going to see a lot more work put in on the field. It’s not about sledging. It’s about encouraging your bowlers and getting into the mind of the batters. We just have to be smart when we’re out there and to concentrate on what’s ahead, and that’s the game. That’s the most important thing.”I know what comes with being a captain, we’ve seen it in the past under our previous leaders – how much time it does take out of your day. So for me it’s about helping Steve to lead this team from the front and take some of those responsibilities off him. I think a lot of that will probably be done at training and off the field, so he can control what’s going on on the field.”

Perry, Villani lead Australia to 3-0

Half-centuries from Elyse Villani and Ellyse Perry lifted Australia Women to 186 for 1, and set up a crushing 99-run victory against Ireland Women in Dublin to seal the series 3-0.Australia, choosing to bat, were aggressive right from the off, with Villani striking the very first ball, from Kim Garth, for four. Both Villani and Perry, her opening partner at the other end, found the boundaries with ease, as the pair blitzed a 121-run partnership from just 85 deliveries. Villani stroked 12 fours and a six during her 53-ball 80, while Perry scored 55 off 46 balls, with seven fours. Villani was eventually bowled by legspinner Elena Tice in the 15th over, but Grace Harris, the No.3 batsman, continued the carnage, blasting three fours and two sixes in her 21-ball 30 to ensure a total in excess of 180. Harris, whose seven-ball 19 had also given Australia much-needed impetus during the second T20I, was later named Player of the Series. Her surge left Ireland needing more than nine an over, and the hosts wilted under the pressure of a large chase. Clare Shillington and Isobel Joyce both fell for ducks in the first over of the chase, as Ireland struggled to put up any substantial stand. Gaby Lewis top-scored with 30, but neither she nor any of her team-mates could score with the desired acceleration, as Ireland were restricted to 87 for 7. Jess Jonassen was Australia’s best bowler, ending with figures of 4-2-7-2, while Megan Schutt and Grace Harris picked up a scalp each.

Bhatt 10-for leaves Baroda 122 chase

Spin ruled again at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, as 19 wickets fell on the second day of the Tamil Nadu-Baroda clash. So much so that the pacers from either side did not bowl a single over, and were left manning the boundaries for the entire day or resting in the dressing room. After debutant left-arm spinner DT Chandrasekar and his senior partner Rahil Shah picked up four wickets each to skittle Baroda for 159, the three-pronged spin attack of Bhargav Bhatt, Swapnil Singh, and Yusuf Pathan took center stage again to bowl Tamil Nadu out for 155. Set a target of 122 with over two days to spare, Baroda negotiated the last two overs of the day without any damage.Malolan Rangarajan and Rahil began proceedings amid bright sunshine and found assistance right away, but it was Chandrasekar who started the slide. He showed little signs of nerves and struck thrice in his first three overs. Chandrasekar first had Aditya Waghmode pop a catch to Baba Indrajith at short leg for 21. Chandrasekar then looped it up, drew Kedar Devdhar out of the crease, and had him stumped for 40. Hardik Pandya was trapped lbw for 2, a wicket that Chandrasekar recalled with fond memories after stumps. He let out a roar and even let rip a throw towards Yusuf’s head in his follow through during the probing spell. He was not going to hold back. And neither was Yusuf.Yusuf’s first four balls read: 4 0 6 6. Malolan was smote for sixes straight down the ground and over long-on. Ahead of the start of play, Yusuf had emphasised on an attack-first approach and walked the talk. He drilled drives down the ground, picked gaps, and kept the scorecard ticking. He helped his team move into the lead in the 41th over, but was out leg before in the next over off a flat darter from Rahil for 41 off 43 balls. In between, Deepak Hooda was also dismissed by Rahil, and Swapnil Singh was caught short by an accurate direct hit from L Vignesh, another debutant. Vignesh almost produced another moment of brilliance when he back-pedaled from midwicket towards cow corner to snap up Bhatt, but the momentum pushed him past the rope. Bhatt indulged in leg-side hacks and Pinal Shah’s slog-sweeps also turned out to be substantial contributions, as Baroda nudged ahead.Tamil Nadu captain Abhinav Mukund’s 100th first-class game, though, got worse: he danced down the track and feebly chipped Swapnil into the lap of short midwicket to bag a pair. Once again, it was down to Bharat Shankar and Baba Aprajith to rebuild. Much like on the first day, both batsmen flicked on the blockathon switch before Aparajith broke the shackles with a firm pull over midwicket off Swapnil. He late-cut Bhatt in the next over before unfurling his trademark inside-out lofted drive over wide long-off.Both Aprajith and Shankar benefited from the in-out field, but the 48-run partnership ended when Shankar spooned a leading edge to cover. Aparajith soon followed him when he was given out caught behind, though there was a daylight between bat and ball. He swiped his bat onto the turf and walked back, shaking his head, and the slender crowd was silenced. Indrajith took over from his twin and showed more intent with Dinesh Karthik in a 37-run stand.Karthik began scratchily, though, and was scoreless for 15 balls. Just when it looked like he had found his range, Pandya hurled a direct hit from backward point to cut short his effort. Indrajith, however, nudged Tamil Nadu’s lead past 50 with a punchy drive through the covers before Yusuf held onto a stunning catch, diving low to his right.J Kousik hung on for 14 and Malolan struck a six before Bhatt wrapped up the innings with his sixth wicket, extending his match-haul to 10. Yusuf played up with the crowd, throwing the ball into the stands and flashed a big smile before trooping off.

BCCI-PCB talks hit by anti-Pakistan protest

A protest by the Shiv Sena, a regional political party, has muddled the fate of discussions between the BCCI and the PCB over the proposed India-Pakistan series in December. On Monday, talks between PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and BCCI president Shashank Manohar were deferred after 50 workers from the Shiv Sena stormed the BCCI office in Mumbai, shouting anti-Pakistan slogans and demanding that the BCCI cancel the series.Neither Manohar nor Khan spoke with the media after the Shiv Sena protests. But conflicting statements came out of the BCCI. While the IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said the meeting would be held in Delhi on Tuesday, the BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said there would be no official meeting.”The talks have not been called off,” Shukla told . “Mr Manohar and Mr Khan will speak to each other in evening today and tomorrow they are coming to Delhi for another round of talks. “In no way the dialogue will be stopped. BCCI has never compromised with national interests.”Thakur, however, contradicted Shukla a few hours later.”Officially there is no meeting scheduled in New Delhi,” he told reporters in Delhi. “If the talks happen, they will take place in Mumbai at BCCI headquarters. The BCCI and PCB have some outstanding issues. The PCB chief wanted to meet the Board president to discuss those things but those have been cancelled now.”Manohar is supposed to be in Pune for a family function on Tuesday. The protest occurred soon after Manohar reached the BCCI office on Monday. Shaharyar, along with Najam Sethi, the head of the PCB’s executive committee, were advised not to leave their south Mumbai hotel, which is a five-minute drive from the BCCI headquarters. They were supposed to meet Manohar there to discuss the possibility of India’s scheduled series against Pakistan in December.Later in the afternoon, the PCB delegation headed to the airport to leave for Delhi amidst heavy police security. Minutes after their departure for the airport, Manohar left the BCCI office and reached the same hotel, where he had also been staying. The Shiv Sena has also threatened to stop the Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar from officiating in the fifth and final ODI between India and South Africa to be played in Mumbai on Sunday. The party has a history of anti-Pakistan protests. In 1999, it dug up the pitch at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi before the start of the India-Pakistan series, and in 2006 threatened to disrupt Pakistan’s Champions Trophy matches in Jaipur and Mohali. In April this year, Pakistani pop singer Atif Aslam’s concert in Pune had to be called off in the wake of such protests, and singer Ghulam Ali’s concert, scheduled to be held in Mumbai on October 9, was also cancelled after party workers threatened to disrupt it.Last week, Shiv Sena activists smeared columnist and writer Sudheendra Kulkarni with black ink, during an event he had organised to launch a book written by the former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.

Dean's fairytale debut gives Victoria big win

ScorecardTravis Dean completed the most memorable of debuts to guide Victoria to a first-up Sheffield Shield victory over Queensland with his second century of the day-night match.Only Arthur Morris among Australians had made a hundred in each innings of his state debut, in a non-Shield fixture during the Second World War, and only six batsmen had done the trick in all first-class matches.Dean’s performance was bettered by the fact he was on the field for every minute of the match, making 154 not out in the first innings then finishing unbeaten on 109 as the Bushrangers eased past a fourth-innings target of 229.That chase had been set up by an opportunistic declaration from the Bushrangers captain, Matthew Wade, who closed the hosts’ first innings 125 runs behind and then watched his bowlers rush through Queensland for 103 under the MCG lights on the third evening.Dean, 23, and Rob Quiney had negotiated the difficult 15 overs before stumps that night, before finding the job to be much more straightforward on Saturday afternoon. After Quiney was lbw to Ben Cutting for the second time in the match, Dean maintained his comfort at the crease in the company of Marcus Stoinis, and the target was whittled down quickly. For a panel of national selectors still searching for organised, prolific batsmen the likes of who shape international teams, Dean’s performance will be of considerable note. He was chosen ahead of Aaron Finch, a more conspicuously talented batsman who has nonetheless failed to become a consistent Shield run-maker.Over the past 12 months, Dean has been a dominant figure in second XI matches, amassing scores of 217*, 116 and 187* in his three most recent games before his Shield call-up. Many in Australian cricket will be hoping to see him maintain that sort of form.

    Yorkshire Phoenix v Kent Spitfires

A Craig White hat-trick won this National League match for the Yorkshire Phoenix. When the Kent Spitfires started the 42nd over they required 30 from four overs and it looked like the Spitfires would win the match. The Spitfires captain Matthew Fleming hit the first ball for a four. The next ball he tried to steer the ball over point but Michael Vaughan held on to a vital catch. In came Min Patel but he was trapped leg before to White. Next man David Masters suffered the same fate. The Spitfires who had started the over on 134 for six finished the over on 138 for nine. Paul Nixon managed to get a single off Silverwood, but the next ball the former England paceman bowled last man Kristian Adams for a duck. The Phoenix were home by 24 runs. However it looked at one stage that the Spitfires would win this match easily. They had restricted the Phoenix to 44 for five after 12 overs. Opening bowlers Mark Ealham and Adams had taken two wickets each and the fifth was a run out, when White attempted a third run and was beaten by a throw from Fleming. Then it was left to the left handers Byas and Gavin Hamilton to hold the Phoenix innings together which they did. They pair scored 51 in 18 overs. Hamilton had scored 21 when he was caught down the legside by Nixon off Patel. James Middebrook was the next man and with Byas put on 30 for the seventh wicket before he was stumped by Nixon off Patel.Chris Silverwood hit a six off Patel, but Patel had his revenge when he caught Silverwood off Fleming’s bowling. David Byas was the ninth man out in the final over when he caught by Matthew Walker off Ealham for 52. He hit five fours, received 93 balls and his innings lasted 122 minutes. Sidebottom and Hoggard took the Phoenix to 163 in their 45 overs. The Phoenix opener Gary Fellows hit the first ball from Ealham for a four. He hit the third ball for a four as well and it looked as if the Phoenix would get a huge score. But Fellows was bowled by Ealham when he pitched the ball up to Fellows. Michael Vaughan made nine before he was caught by Dravid at short mid off. Darren Lehmann was only two when he was caught down the leg side by Nixon off Adams. Blakey scored ten when he became Nixon’s second victim of the day off Ealham. At that stage it looked as if the flags at Headingley were flying at half-mast for the Phoenix. When the Spitfires batted they got off to a bad start. David Fulton played on to Silverwood’s third ball for a duck. His partner Robert Key lasted until the seventh over and then he too played on to Silverwood for no score. What the Spitfires needed to win this match was partnerships. They got one from Walker and the Indian batsman Rahul Dravid. The pair added 47 for the third wicket in 15 overs in a safe and unspectacular style.Walker was leg before to James Middlebrook for 18. Alan Wells and Ealham scored nine between them. They were both bowled by Middlebrook. Dravid was the next man out when he was leg before to Hoggard one shot off 50. His patient knock came from 88 balls and he only hit three fours. Fleming and Nixon hit 41 in nine overs and looked to be seeing the Spitfires home before that Craig White eighth over.
