Everton’s 8/10 hero may have just saved them from relegation

Everton boosted their hopes of Premier League survival after claiming a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Toffees produced a professional display, limiting the Reds to minimal chances before being clinical when having the opportunity from distance.

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil secured a double over the Reds for Sean Dyche's side and extended the gap between themselves and Luton Town to five points with five games remaining.

The game was overshadowed by controversy after Nuno Espírito Santo's side were denied three penalties, with the club posting a strongly worded statement on social media after the final whistle.

The Toffees also suffered a blow during the win, with striker Beto being stretchered off after a nasty head collision with midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

Despite all the drama surrounding him, one Everton player starred throughout, justifying Dyche's choice to reinstall him in the starting lineup this afternoon.

Everton's best player against Nottingham Forest

After missing the 6-0 thrashing against Chelsea last Monday, Dyche decided to recall midfielder Gueye from the off against Forest – a decision that proved to be a fantastic decision.

The 34-year-old Senegalese featured for the entirety of the encounter and scored the opening goal after a nervy opening to the game – understandable given the circumstances.

He also managed to win 75% of the duels he contested, plus winning four tackles as he played a pivotal role in breaking up any counter-attacks produced by the visitors.

Gueye also completed 34 of his 39 passes, at a completion rate of 87% – having the second-best rate of any outfield player behind fellow midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Everton's relegation situation

Despite having five games left in the Premier League this season, Gueye's performance in the victory over Forest today has massively boosted the club's chance of securing survival and avoiding a repeat of a final-day showdown.

He may be coming towards the tail end of his career given the fact he's 34, but today's performance is evidence that he's still able to produce top-quality outings on a constant basis.

His goal and all-round positive play certainly have allowed Dyche's side to stretch their lead over the relegation places and have their Premier League status in their own hands despite all the setbacks the club have received this campaign.

Gueye must be a crucial part of the Everton squad between now and the final day on May 19th, with the Senegalese defensive midfielder proving to everyone he is a reliable player for the club as they aim to maintain their ever-present top-flight Premier League position.

Dhawan replaced by Shaw and Samson for New Zealand tour

Prithvi Shaw could be in line for an ODI debut in New Zealand having replaced the injured Shikhar Dhawan for the three-match series set to begin on February 5. Both teams play a five-match T20I series prior to that, for which Sanju Samson has been picked as the BCCI confirmed Dhawan, who was first-choice opener before a grade two injury to his shoulder, will report to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehabilitation.Shaw, who made a Test century on debut in 2018, is already in New Zealand with the India A team and has been in excellent form. The 20-year old opener struck a compelling 150 against New Zealand A in a warm-up game on Sunday to follow a double-hundred for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. He did suffer a minor injury scare a few weeks ago, having fallen on his shoulder while fielding, but judging by that hundred in Lincoln, which included 22 fours and two sixes, there appears to be little discomfort.Prithvi Shaw has been called up to India’s ODI squad for the first time•ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Shaw has been on an upward track since his return from doping violation in November 2019. His first innings back was a half-century which he celebrated by pointing at his back and then making a talking gesture. The BCCI, while imposing a back-dated sanction, said Shaw had accidentally taken a forbidden substance commonly found in cough syrups. Should he make it to the XI during this three-match series against New Zealand, he will make his ODI debut in the same place where he led India to the Under-19 World Cup title in 2017. Outside of his inclusion, India kept faith in the same squad that beat Australia 2-1 at home.Samson, meanwhile, has been on the fringes of national selection for several years. The wicketkeeper batsman played his first international in July 2015 and that had been his only game for India until earlier this month when he made the squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Both Samson and Shaw may yet be confined to the reserves considering India still have Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul to open the batting and Rishabh Pant to keep wicket.Sanju Samson has replaced the injured Shikhar Dhawan in India’s T20I squad•ESPNcricinfo Ltd

Mohammed Shami is the only other addition to the T20I squad that beat Sri Lanka 2-0. He has shown great improvement in his limited-overs skills, some of which were display on his last tour of New Zealand when he picked up nine wickets from four ODIs. He joined a fast-bowling line-up which includes Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur. India were spoiled for choice in the spin department as well with Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar all part of the squad for the five-match T20I series.

Pep planning big push to sign £82,000-a-week "special" star for Man City

Pep Guardiola is ready to push through a mega-money move this summer as he looks to recharge his Manchester City side after a failed defence of their treble this time around, it is being claimed.

Two trophies still possible for Man City

After sweeping all before them last season, City have looked a shadow of their former selves this season despite still being in the hunt for a Premier League and FA Cup double.

Their hopes of winning the Champions League in back-to-back seasons ended with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid, and the summer signings made have not really had the desired impact yet, with Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes, in particular, flattering to deceive.

There is also plenty of speculation around the future of some of the attacking stars of Manchester City's current side. Kevin De Bruyne has been subject to interest from Saudi Arabia and will be entering the final 12 months of his contract this summer, possibly leaving this as the last chance for City to cash in on the Belgian.

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva has long longed for a move to Barcelona, and has a £50m release clause in his contract to allow him to do so this summer if the Catalan giants stump up the cash, meaning that City may be without two of their creative geniuses come the new season. As a result, they are already eyeing up a future world-beater.

Pep pushing for Musiala

The player in question is none other than Bayern Munich golden boy Jamal Musiala, whose future seems uncertain in Bavaria this summer.

That is according to The Guardian, who claim that Bayern may opt to cash in on the youngster this summer should he not agree a new deal, with his current contract set to run out in 2026.

It is added that they will command a "huge fee" for the German, but with City having regularly shelled out large amounts for star talent that is unlikely to be an issue.

Indeed, it is added that Guardiola's side are "at the front of the queue" thanks to their "advanced" interest, with former club Chelsea also monitoring the situation.

City are planning a "big push" for his services with Musiala having won over the City boss and is now emerging as Guardiola's top target this summer. He could certainly prove a coup were he to become available.

Man City now chasing to sign "monster" who they think can replace Walker

The Cityzens are one of a number of clubs interested in the talented full-back ahead of the summer.

ByDan Emery Apr 11, 2024

TNT Sports pair Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves have both showered Musiala in praise this year already.

“I think the highest compliment I can give him is that I don’t know where his ceiling is", Ferdinand explained. “This guy has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or. I’ve said it before, he has the potential to do that if the path goes the right way for him and he’s in a successful team. That’s the platform and foundation for that.”

Meanwhile, Hargreaves added: “He rarely ever loses the ball, which is crazy. Normally technical players further up the pitch turn over the ball a lot, but Jamal just has a feel for it. He’s a super special player.”

Should he move, Musiala would likely see a significant hike on the current £82,000 per week that he takes home as part of his Bayern Munich contract, with City likely to be able to offer far more lucrative terms to bring him to the Premier League.

He could well prove the perfect heir for De Bruyne, and City fans will already be excited about the idea of Musiala linking up with Phil Foden behind Erling Haaland next season should a deal get over the line.

Report: Emery now tells Monchi to step in and get Aston Villa signing done

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has reportedly told the club's President of Football Operations, Monchi, to work his magic and get a deal done for a "dazzling" attacking player this summer.

Aston Villa transfer news

The Villans have a huge few weeks ahead of them in the Premier League, with themselves and Tottenham battling it out for the fourth remaining Champions League spot. Qualifying for Europe's biggest club competition would be a massive achievement by Emery and his players, and immediately improve their chances of signing top-quality players in the summer transfer window.

According to a recent update, Villa are a "serious threat" in the battle to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee at the end of the season, battling with the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan for his signature. The Dutchman is enjoying a good season, bagging 11 goals and four assists in Serie A.

Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee

The Midlands side have also been linked with a summer move for Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville, who has arguably been one of the most influential players in his side's Championship promotion push in 2023/24, registering 28 goal contributions (19 goals and nine assists) in the league. Should the Whites fail to earn promotion, he is expected to leave the club.

Since signing a new deal as Villa manager, Emery has reportedly asked the club to sign Villarreal midfiedler Alex Baena, and it seems that isn't his only request.

Emery looks to Monchi to strike deal

According to a new report from Estadio Deportivo [via Sport Witness], Emery also wants Monchi to get a deal for Nico Williams over the line.

In the report, is claimed that the manager "has twice tried to convince the player and has been rejected on both occasions", and the Villa boss has now "entrusted Monchi with a mission" to snap him up before the beginning of next season.

Spain forward Nico Williams.

At this point, it would be a disappointment not to see Williams in a Villa shirt next season, considering what a big target he appears to be for Emery. There is an understandable reason for him wanting to snap up the 21-year-old, considering he has already become such an important player for Bilbao, chipping in with eight assists in 24 La Liga starts this season and being lauded as "dazzling" by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Williams is also now a 13-cap and two-goal Spain international, showing that he is a growing force at international level, and given the fact that he is still only 21, there should be so much more brilliance to come in the approaching years.

Monchi has gained a reputation for his "genius" in the transfer market throughout his career, including at Sevilla and Villa, and if he secures the signing of Williams he will be worth his weight in gold once again.

Newcastle eyeing move for Gordon 2.0 who’s perfect for Isak

Newcastle United have endured a difficult campaign under Eddie Howe, with the Magpies struggling to replicate the performances that saw the club reach the Champions League last season.

The club have found life in the Premier League tough this time around after multiple long-term injuries to key players have seen the side look light in key areas.

Howe's side have endured a terrible run of setbacks, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles the latest long-term absentees after both picking up ACL blows just weeks after one another.

goncalo-inacio-sven-botman-newcastle-transfer-premier-league

The pair are expected to miss up to nine months, with Howe experiencing somewhat of a crisis in the centre-back department after the latest developments.

However, despite the club's torrid luck at the back, the Magpies are seemingly also targeting reinforcements at the top end of the pitch, with the Saudi PIF looking to bolster their firepower with a talented winger.

Newcastle interested in signing talented forward

Just over a year after the arrival of winger Anthony Gordon from Everton for around £45m, Howe's side are rumoured to be wanting another player in the wide left area.

According to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Newcastle have 'expressed interest' in signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa this summer, with the Italian having less than 18 months left on his current deal.

Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.

Juve have entered talks with the 26-year-old, with the report claiming the talks are in 'no hurry' as Chiesa views the Premier League as an attractive possibility.

The Magpies should look to exploit his current contract situation, bringing the winger to St James' Park, and providing valuable squad depth and quality in the attacking third.

Chiesa could prove to be Gordon 2.0

When comparing the two left-wingers on FBref, the duo – who are noted as similar players – have produced very similar stats this campaign, with Chiesa slightly coming out on top in multiple key areas.

It's clear from the comparison that Chiesa, who earns £150k-per-week as per Capology, is a level above in terms of quality. The Italian averages 4.6 progressive carries compared to Gordon's tally of 4.2, with the Italian also dominating the Englishman when it comes to touches in the 18-yard box.

federico-chiesa-transfer-news-newcastle-premier-league

Gordon's averaged 4.5, 0.7 less than Chiesa's tally of 5.2 – once again highlighting the quality of Juve's Italian winger. Such an aggressive and direct play style would no doubt lend itself to Howe's attacking style of play.

Chiesa's potential arrival on Tyneside would also bode well for Magpies striker Alexander Isak. The striker has been in brilliant form in the Premier League this campaign, scoring 15 times in 23 games, making him the club's top scorer by some distance.

However, should the "unpredictable" Italian – as dubbed by compatriot Antonio Di Natalie – join the club this summer, the Swedish international could see himself grab a load more goals given Chiesa's productivity in the final third.

armando-broja-alexander-isak-west-ham

Juve's winger averages three progressive passes per game in Serie A this season, with Isak – who has netted 19 times already this term across all fronts – potentially finding himself with more opportunities to bolster his tally.

Cheisa's progressive passes, coupled with his two assists in the league this campaign, could see Howe form a deadly partnership between the 26-year-old and Isak, which could see the Magpies fight for a top-four spot once more next season.

He could prove to be Howe's final piece in the attacking jigsaw puzzle, with the Italian having the quality to nail down a starting position at the top end of the pitch alongside Gordon and Isak.

Newcastle could replace the "best signing" that PIF have made this summer

The Magpies are looking to strengthen in key areas ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Ange benches Richarlison in predicted Spurs lineup vs Liverpool

After two disappointing defeats in a row, Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to bounce back with a win against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered back-to-back defeats against London rivals, losing 3-2 against Arsenal in the North London Derby last Sunday, before suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Thursday evening.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou

Their tough run continues this weekend at Anfield, as they try to put the final nail in the coffin of Liverpool’s failed title challenge. Indeed, the Reds have been in patchy form too, having picked up just four points from their last four Premier League games.

Spurs are currently hunting down Aston Villa who occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification place. They are currently seven points behind Unai Emery’s side, although they have a game in hand.

It could well be the case that Postecoglou decides to rotate the Spurs side ahead of the trip to Liverpool this Sunday. There are three potential changes the Lilywhites manager could make ahead of the crunch clash…

1 GK – Guglielmo Vicario

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

There are fair arguments to say that the signing of Guglielmo Vicario has been the best piece of transfer business Spurs conducted last summer. They signed him from Empoli for an initial fee of £17.2m, and he is so far proving his worth.

The 27-year-old has made some fantastic saves and has kept six clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season, as well as one in the FA Cup.

2 RB – Pedro Porro

Tottenham defender Pedro Porro

Since joining Spurs last January on a loan-to-buy deal from Sporting, Pedro Porro has impressed, but under Postecoglou, he has taken his game to a whole new level.

The Spaniard has one goal and seven assists this season for Spurs, which, as per SofaScore, is the second-most assists for Spurs this season, bettered only by captain Son Heung-min, who has nine. He has also created the third-most big chances, with only Son with 17 and Dejan Kulusevski with 13 having more than Porro’s 12.

3 CB – Cristian Romero

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero

Postecoglou showed great faith in Romero at the start of the season by making him one of the two Spurs vice-captains. He has played a big role this season, featuring 29 times and scoring an impressive five goals.

The Argentine is a tough defender and is very dominant in duels. According to SofaScore, he wins an average of 2.9 ground duels and 2.7 aerial duels per 90 minutes this season.

4 CB – Radu Dragusin

Radu Dragusin in action for Tottenham

The first of the three Spurs changes could see January signing Radu Dragusin get the nod at centre-back. The Lilywhites paid Genoa £26.7m to acquire his services five months ago, although his opportunities have been few and far between.

The Romanian has made just six appearances in a Spurs shirt so far, making two starts, in back-to-back games against Fulham and Luton. He could be in line to start this week due to a tactical tweak from Postecoglou.

5 LB – Mickey van de Ven

Micky van de Ven celebrates for Tottenham

The reason Dragusin could start is because Mickey van de Ven could fill in at left-back. Since Destiny Udogie’s injury, Spurs have played both Ben Davies and Emerson in his place, but both have struggled. Thus, Postecoglou might well turn to Van de Ven.

Indeed, Van de Ven has played at left-back 15 times in his career, although never for Spurs. His pace and excellent ability on the ball will stand him in good stead for that role.

6 CM – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pierre Hojbjerg.

The second change Postecoglou could make is to start Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the centre of midfield, ahead of Yves Bissouma.

The Dane, who has played 33 times in the Premier League this season for Spurs, will bring lots of experience to their midfield. As per SofaScore, he averages 3.5 ball recoveries and wins an average of 1.7 ground duels per 90 minutes this season.

7 CM – Pape Matar Sarr

Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr celebrating a goal.

Likely keeping his place in midfield from the defeat against Chelsea is Pape Matar Sarr. The young midfielder has left a great impression in his first full season of Premier League football.

Sarr has contributed to six goals this season, scoring three and registering three assists. Off the ball, he works very hard, winning an average of 4.4 ball recoveries per 90 minutes, according to SofaScore. He will no doubt continue to be a key player under Postecoglou.

8 AM – James Maddison

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison

Since returning from injury, James Maddison’s early season form has taken a bit of a nosedive, leading to Postecoglou dropping him against Chelsea last season. However, against Liverpool, he could well come back into the side instead of Richarlison – who had just 19 touches before being booked on the hour mark during the midweek defeat.

With that being said, Maddison’s quality is obvious, and he was described as a “magician” by pundit Jamie O’Hara. This season, he has four goals and seven assists, which is still the fourth-most combined goal involvements for Spurs this season.

9 RW – Dejan Kulusevski

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski celebrates

Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski played as a number 10 against Chelsea, in behind his captain Son. However, he could well shift back out to the right wing against Liverpool, to accommodate Maddison.

The 24-year-old is a silky dribbler, who averages a competition of 1.6 dribbles per game as per SofaScore. Not only that, the 13 big chances he has created for Spurs this season are bettered only by Son.

10 LW – Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson for Tottenham

It has been a successful first season for Brennan Johnson in a Spurs shirt, following his £47.5m move from Nottingham Forest on deadline day last summer.

The Welsh international has 12 combined goal involvements in the Premier League, which is more than any other player side from Son with 25 and Richarlison with 13. This is already Johnson’s best return in the Premier League, beating his tally from the 2022/23 season.

Arsenal set sights on signing £65m star who wants to join Man United

Arsenal have now set their sights on signing a £65 million player who is actually said to fancy a move to Manchester United this summer.

Edu's transfer strategy as Arsenal prepare for summer window

No matter the outcome of their Premier League title race, Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu are apparently preparing for what will be a busy transfer window ahead of 2024/2025.

Arsenal now back in the race to sign £50m+ striker for Arteta this summer

He’s a long-term target…

ByTom Cunningham Apr 21, 2024

Some reports have even suggested that Arsenal will break their summer transfer record on three to four marquee signings this summer, with the north Londoners thought to be keen on bringing in a striker, winger and centre-midfielder (Charles Watts).

A new number nine is thought to be a real priority for Arsenal, while Edu has admitted to media that the Gunners will be targeting young, hungry and energetic players.

"I understand what the fans are asking for but we already have our targets,” said Edu to TNT Sports earlier this season.

"We have planned a lot ahead and I will be worried if we don’t score a lot of goals and if we’re not creating chances, which is the opposite because we create a lot and score a lot of goals. The plan is to try to get better every year and I think we are in a good moment. Let's see if we can keep improving.

“I think if you see the type of the players we have at the moment, it’s players which have a big, big commitment of [to] the club, which is very important. Many times in certain conversations to recruit the players you don't see the character of the player or the character of the player does not fit well with what we are trying to do and then you have to move on and try to find what we’re really looking for.

“If you see all the signings we’ve made since we started together, everyone is almost the same, young, energetic and passionate, and good talents with big, beautiful futures ahead of them.”

In terms of the wide players who could fit this mould, one of them is exciting 22-year-old Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. The Frenchman, who's been a star player for Palace this season, is attracting interest from up and down the division.

Man Utd transfer target Michael Olise in Premier League action for Crystal Palace.

ESPN (via football365) recently claimed that the £65 million Olise prefers a move to Man United if he is to leave Selhurst, but that hasn't stopped Arsenal from throwing their hat in the ring.

Arsenal set sights on signing Olise this summer

According to a report by Football Insider and journalist Pete O'Rourke, Arsenal have "set sights on signing" Olise this summer, following an impressive haul of seven goals and four assists in the league alone this season.

Interestingly, Arsenal legend and former Palace manager Patrick Vieira has previously called him a "special talent" to watch out for.

"He can score goals, create chances and he is a special talent," Vieira said to the press. "He will improve and get better as a player. His work ethic every day has been terrific since he has been at the football club."

Cricket Australia guards cash and venues ahead of coronavirus winter

Kevin Roberts said major venues locked in for the T20 World Cup would not be released for other sports if season were extended

Daniel Brettig17-Mar-2020Strategic cash reserves and standing agreements to take control of the nation’s biggest sporting venues for next summer’s T20 World Cup will be tightly held by Cricket Australia ahead of an off-season that is set to see winter sports ravaged by efforts to fight the global spread of coronavirus. In announcing that CA had chosen to cancel the Sheffield Shield final and award the title to the table-topping New South Wales side, while also recommending the cessation of all community cricket and instructing staff to work from home until at least April 13, the chief executive Kevin Roberts said that the governing body had moved towards playing out various scenarios. These include the prospect of long-term sporting shutdowns, perhaps even stretching into next season’s visit by India.”We’re working through scenario plans around that now,” Roberts said of longer-term shutdowns. “We’re in uncertain times, and it’s difficult to project precisely what will transpire over the next number of months. But we will be working through with advice from experts, externally as to what are the various scenarios that are plausible, how likely are they, and how would we plan to deal with each of them.ALSO READ: New South Wales named Sheffield Shield winners as final cancelled”We’re moving now from management of the onset of coronavirus as a critical incident, to how do we guarantee the continuity of our business and our organisation beyond that – moving from the reactive to the more proactive, and forming a team of business continuity experts that work through all of that over the coming months. So we want to try and take the time to reflect proudly on that and make sure the ongoing impact of that great event, and the springboard it represents for women and girls’ sport, is maximised. We did get lucky there, no doubt, and we’ll do what we can to support our colleagues in other sports through the winter, who are going to be harder hit by this.”At the same time, Roberts indicated that any collaborative efforts with the likes of the Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL), as seen in recent efforts to help rural communities recover from the summer’s horrific bushfire season, would have their limits. In particular, Roberts ruled out any discussion of pooling cash funds held by Australia’s major sports for contingency funding, with a vast difference in some cases as to how capable they are of coping without regular fixtures over the coming weeks and months.Crowds collect outside the MCG before the start of the T20 World Cup final•Getty Images

The NRL is in particularly grim territory, having liquidated its own A$54 million “future fund” in 2016 to deal with short-term cashflow issues and to fund the building of its digital arm, and with its chairman Peter V’Landys actively calling for government assistance. The AFL – thought to have reserves in the region of A$65 million – is somewhat better off, but facing the likelihood of hard times for the league and all clubs after announcing the pre-emptive reduction of the season to 17 regular rounds with an uncertain start date.”The discussions at an industry level for sport, what we have in common is that engagement with communities and the way that sport can bring communities together and inspire them like very few other things in life,” Roberts said. “The financial circumstances of each sport are matters for each sport, in saying that we’ll support the winter sports wherever we can, but I wouldn’t envisage that extends to a common financial pool if you like, given that the circumstances of each sport financially are their business.”As for the AFL floating the possibility of extending its season into December this year in the event of a heavily delayed start, Roberts said that CA and the ICC would be holding the likes of state governments and venue operators to their contracts to host the men’s T20 World Cup in October and November, culminating in the MCG final on November 15.”At a bigger picture level, we’re really hoping all forms of sport can be played again in a few weeks’ or a few months’ time,” Roberts said. “None of us are experts in this situation obviously, so our hope is we’re back in very much normal circumstances come October-November when the men’s T20 World Cup is to be played, and at this stage, we’re planning on November 15 to have a full house next door here at the MCG to inspire the world through men’s cricket, as the women’s cricketers did here just last week.””Certainly we would intend to work collaboratively and support the AFL and other winter sports codes through this period. We do have it a little bit easier at this stage, given the timing of our season. At the same time, there’s a World Cup planned, we’ve got agreements in place and our assumption is that they go ahead as planned, but all sports can be expecting support from us in the meantime.”While the Australian Cricketers Association has already declared its intent to oppose any health-related restrictions on its players travelling to India for the IPL should it go ahead from April 15, Roberts said that discussions of overseas travel and other future assignments, including the national team’s tours of Bangladesh and England in June and July, needed to take place as and when government and health advice was up-to-date.”We’re conscious that Australian players are individually contracted to the IPL and the time will certainly come very soon when players will be really interested and leaning on our perspective as their leader, if you like, to advise them in that regard,” Roberts said. “Then there’ll also be a perspective from the BCCI and their IPL division. Together with the BCCI and with our players, I’m sure players will reach the best possible decisions in uncertain circumstances.”There’s absolutely a bigger picture here and the health of the community, and not just in Australia either, worldwide. So we’re working closely with NZC, CSA, because of the cancellation of recent tours, we discussed the BCCI, so there’s an international lens as well, and we’re doing our best to cross-collaborate across other sports in Australia and also other ICC members worldwide.”
