Liverpool fans react as Ings completes permanent move to Southampton

[ad_pod ]

Having joined Liverpool in 2015 from Burnley, Danny Ings’ career at Anfield has rather unfortunately been blighted by the injury curse.

The England international suffered the unfortunate luck of having his time with the Reds disrupted by two long-term injuries and in the end managed just four goals in his 25 appearances for the club.

Now, as confirmed by the club’s official website, following a loan spell at Premier League rivals Southampton last season, Ings has completed a permanent switch to St Mary’s this summer.

After hearing the news, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts and many wished Ings well on his future after sympathising with his injury plight at Anfield.

Indeed, some seemed to suggest that had the 26-year-old stayed injury-free, then he could have become a “special player” and voiced their regret at not really seeing the best of him on Merseyside.

A few Reds fans wishing the striker well also urged him not to score against his former club however, whilst there was also plenty of praise for director of football Michael Edwards, thanks to the reported £20m transfer fee.

Wolves’ cunning loan policy could end up saving them millions

[ad_pod ]

According to an interview with Seyi Olofinjana in Express & Star, Wolves have come up with a cunning loan policy to benefit a number of their top academy prospects.

What’s the word?

Despite not boasting a large squad, Wolves had a number of players out on loan last season from both their senior side and U23s.

In the Premier League Wolves used just 21 players as they finished seventh in their first term back in the top-flight.

But despite a small squad, it appears the club are keen to loan their young stars out again next campaign.

However, there is an astute tactic in place to send them to leagues in specific countries around Europe.

Speaking to Express & Star, loans chief Olofinjana declared:

“Before now we have sent players out to League One or League Two sides, but the style of play doesn’t always suit the kinds of players we have, so we started looking outside the country. Now we’re looking at Slovakia, Poland and Belgium to give these boys an experience and to learn what it’s like to live outside of England.”

Intriguing approach

This is a fine sign of the work being done behind the scenes by Wolves after initial strides in this policy last season proved fruitful.

They sent Connor Ronan and Benny Ashley Seal to Slovakia and Portugal respectively, and both players are individuals who could now play a role in the first team after impressing abroad.

By recognising that the style of play in the third and fourth tier of English football doesn’t suit Wolves’ way of playing, it’s helping not only their best prospects prepare for a brighter future, but also the club as a whole.

In short, it could save the club millions in transfer windows to come.

Although Wolves have recently smashed their transfer record to sign Raul Jimenez for £30m, by preparing their players in the best way possible through loan deals, it may prevent the club from having to do as many deals of this magnitude again.

In recent years, young players from the English game have been making huge strides away from the Premier League. The most noticeable player to have done so is Jadon Sancho.

After reading Olofinjana’s comments, we may well see Wolves players having a similar impact around the continent next season.

Matt Targett and Tammy Abraham respond to Ryan Sessegnon’s Instagram post

We leave club football behind us for a while and head into international waters. England’s U-21 squad is all but ready to step into the European Championship as the Young Lions compete in group C alongside Croatia, France and Romania.

Tammy Abraham was first to respond, showing his love for his teammates. The young forward will, of course, be accompanying Sessegnon in the tournament as one of England’s four strikers and is expected to play quite a role in their campaign to glory.

But the 23-year-old wasn’t the only one showing affection and support to the Young Lions. Matt Target, Southampton’s defender in demand and one of the young Englishmen who’s not a part of the squad also wished them the very best of luck.

With two goals and six assists to his name, Sessegnon will look to have a great impact on England’s chances in the tournament.

Sheffield Wednesday: Bruce should consider summer swoop for Odubajo

It has been a roller-coaster of a year to be a Sheffield Wednesday supporter hasn’t it?

After experiencing a truly awful start to the season, the Hillsborough faithful must have been fearing a possible relegation battle in the Championship.

Yet following Dejphon Chansiri’s decision to replace Jos Luhukay with Steve Bruce in January, Wednesday’s fortunes where completely transformed as they embarked on a 12 game unbeaten run in the second tier that had fans dreaming of an appearance in the play-offs.

Although the club would eventually finish 12th in the standings, it is clear that the former Aston Villa boss has brought an air of positivity with him to South Yorkshire and so there is no reason why the Owls cannot launch a sustained push for promotion next season.

However, in order to create the foundations needed to succeed over the coming years, Bruce will need to bolster his squad this summer in a number of positions.

According to Football Insider, one of the players who the 58-year-old is reportedly interested in signing when the transfer window opens in July is Moses Odubajo. Available on a free transfer after being released by Brentford earlier this month, the right-back would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Liam Palmer who experienced an inconsistent 2018/19 campaign at Hillsborough.

Having previously experienced promotion under Bruce three years ago at Hull City, Odubajo could benefit from a reunion with his former boss as by joining Wednesday, he could provide the club with an attacking threat from defence that would work in tandem with Dominic Iorfa.

If the £900k-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) can build a fruitful partnership with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, they could take the Championship by storm next year.

What do you think Owls fans? Should Bruce make a swoop for Odubajo in the summer? Or is there another full-back that you want your club to try and bring in? Let us know below.

Leeds fans on Twitter united behind Lucas Radebe’s promotion talk

Leeds fans are on the cusp of making it back to the Premier League for the first time in years. To be exact, it’s been 15 years since the Whites kicked a ball in the top flight, and in that season they had the fantastic Lucas Radebe in the squad. Now, as they’re approaching a return to the top, Radebe has offered his support on Twitter for the club.

Leeds fans everywhere love Radebe and even now that their former defender is 50-years-old, the fans still salute him and call him by his nickname ‘Chief’. The South African has got so much respect from the fans of the Yorkshire club after he managed an impressive 229 games for the Whites, and even now they love seeing him showing his support for the Elland Road club.

This time around, Leeds fans have another cult hero Lucas Radebe type in Pontus Jansson. The Swede is yet to match the achievements of the South African at Elland Road, but Radebe is humble enough to want to see the current Leeds star make it further than he did. The Premier League is the start, and promotion is something the fans are dying for, so much so that the Whites want to see Radebe at Wembley should they make it to the playoff final.

You can read the Whites’ replies to Radebe’s tweet here:

The Whites cannot are desperate to make it to a Wembley playoff final, and will be desperate to see their former defender Radebe in the crowd to cheer them on.

The Chalkboard: Victor Wanyama shows Moussa Sissoko how to complete major transformation

[ad_pod ]

That Moussa Sissoko is widely fancied to win Tottenham’s player of the season award speaks volumes about how far the once ritually lambasted midfielder has come this season, but has Victor Wanyama shown him that another level can still be reached?

On the chalkboard

Sissoko’s transformation has been as compelling as it has been stunning. Simply put, nobody saw this coming, nobody. In seasons gone by it seemed the France international had no excuse for consistently underperforming in Lilywhite without the fallback of inexperience to explain his abject displays.

But the beginning of the current campaign and a move into central midfield has seen the all-action midfielder become a hub at the heart of Tottenham’s free-flowing system.

The 29-year-old now patrols the centre circle with a swagger and sense of authority which is a mind-boggling far cry from the frightened and nerve-jangling figure who used to strike every ball as if his basic liberties as a human being were at stake.

Yet the transformation does not feel complete.

This is a player who is able to flick on the jets and rapidly switch a canter into a gallop to breeze past his opponent, but one who also fails to fully utilise this skill.

Victor Wanyama, however, making a rare start for Spurs on Saturday, showed Sissoko how to perfectly time a run into the penalty area by striding forward to latch onto a loose ball, bypassing the goalkeeper with ease and tapping the ball into a gaping goal.

If anyone needed to learn a lesson from this moment of undisputed class, it was Sissoko.

Sissoko could and should score more

The manner in which Wanyama ghosted into the box was (sorry Spurs fans) almost Lampard-esque.

Timing of the run is everything, and that’s an area where Sissoko must improve to utilise every aspect of his footballing repertoire.

For a player with his speed and energy he ought to be running free of his marker and arriving in the box unmarked and ready to find the net, but he seldom finds himself in a goal scoring position.

Wanyama, valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt, is hardly famed for his goal scoring prowess or the intelligence of his running into the area but he still managed to showcase that side of his game against the Terriers.

If Sissoko wants to full complete his turnaround and become a truly devastating talent in central midfield, he needs to find tune that side of his game.

Everton fans feeling pessimistic after David Neres’ latest Ajax display

[ad_pod ]

Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte reported last week that Everton are interested in signing Ajax attacker David Neres, but Toffees fans on Twitter are certainly feeling more pessimistic about their chances of getting him following his latest display.

The 22-year-old started in attack for his side in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Juventus in Amsterdam on Wednesday night, and he found the net with a fine curling strike just after half-time.

Neres, who can play on either wing or as a central attacking midfielder – something that would surely appeal to the Merseyside outfit and manager Marco Silva – has scored 12 goals and provided a further 15 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch giants this term.

Should he arrive at Goodison Park he would surely be competing with the likes of Bernard and Richarlison, both of whom he shares an agent with, for a spot in the starting XI, but the larger clubs in Europe may well be taking a closer look at him now he has delivered on the biggest stage.

That is something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Everton supporters, with one saying him finding the net is the “worst thing that could have happened”, while another was equally negative saying “think that’s ended our chances of getting him”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Huddersfield Town: Siewert must cut ties with Philip Billing in the summer

Philip Billing was once considered to be one of the Football League’s brightest young prospects when he first emerged as a regular for Huddersfield Town in 2015.

A defensive midfielder who also has the habit of producing the spectacular, the Danish player was given the chance to demonstrate his talents by former boss David Wagner and later played an integral role in helping the Terriers reach the top-flight for the first time in 45 years.

Last season saw Billing make 16 Premier League appearances as his side staged a miraculous run to ensure their survival yet unfortunately for Huddersfield supporters, the club are not going to be able to repeat this feat during the current campaign.

Jan Siewert’s side are currently sixteen points away from safety and can be relegated at the weekend if they lose to Crystal Palace and both Burnley and Southampton win their games.

With Championship football looming next season, the Terriers must start to consider who to keep and who to let go and despite Billing making 20 appearances in the top flight this season, he should be one of the players to depart the John Smith’s Stadium in the summer after a string of poor performances for the club.

By cashing in on the midfielder, Huddersfield will be doing both parties a favour as they will be able to garner a respectable fee whilst on an individual basis, the 22-year-old could benefit from a fresh start. Over the past 12 months, Billing has struggled to develop as a player in such a poor side and may need to leave in order to get his career back on track.

Although he has only illustrated his talent on a sporadic basis during his time with Huddersfield, the Denmark under-21 international should still be able to secure a future in the Premier League, even if this means leaving the club that gave him his senior debut in football.

What do you think Terriers fans? Should the club cash in on Billing in the summer? Or should they do everything they can to keep the midfielder? Get in touch below.

Play him: Nottingham Forest fans demand more game time for Arvin Appiah

[ad_pod ]

There’s something about an academy starlet that gets fans excited. With Nottingham Forest’s Arvin Appiah, that is no different.

The young forward was called up to England’s U19s squad last week but has only featured once in the league this season for Forest, something which has left supporters of the Reds a little puzzled.

Following comments made by manager Martin O’Neill about the 18-year-old, there is a demand that he now gets more game time.

O’Neill’s words about the attacker were full of positives so the frustration over his lack of game time from fans seems justified. In response to the manager’s statements, two individuals shared similar opinions, claiming that the club should be giving him minutes in preparation for next season.

The reasoning behind this is a lack of goals in the team, according to one fan. Another said he should be included more often because of Lewis Grabban’s injury whilst there was a suggestion that Appiah is better than Ben Osborn.

The question was also asked as to why is he not playing for Forest if he’s good enough to be called up for England U19s.

Appiah already has one goal for the club this term, scoring off the bench against Burton in the Carabao Cup. Since then, he’s found opportunities hard to come by.

Here’s the best of the reaction to O’Neill’s remarks.
