Marsh and Kohli move into top five on the Orange Cap table

There was no major shuffle on Purple Cap table, which is led by Noor Ahmad

‘A riled-up Kohli is bad news for the opposition’

Orange Cap table

RCB’s Virat Kohli and Mitchell Marsh of LSG got back into the top five and also crossed the 600-run mark in Lucknow. Asked to bat first, Marsh smashed a 37-ball 67 and was involved in a 152-run stand with his captain Rishabh Pant to help LSG post 227 for 3. It wasn’t enough though, as RCB chased it down with eight balls to spare and six wickets in hand. One of the key contributors for RCB was Kohli, who hit 54 off 30 balls to lay the foundation for Jitesh Sharma to take off.Marsh now sits at No.4 and he signed off the season with 627 runs while Kohli, who will be in action in the playoffs, is behind him at No. 5 with 602 runs. There was no change at the top with Gujarat Titans’ B Sai Sudharsan leading the table, followed by Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians.

Purple Cap table

With Josh Hazlewood yet to play this IPL after recovering from his shoulder injury, there was no major shuffle on the Purple Cap table which is led by Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with 24 wickets. Behind him is GT’s Prasidh Krishna, with 23, and MI’s Trent Boult occupies the third with 19 wickets.Hazlewood remains fourth with 18 wickets and has a chance to move up when he plays in the playoffs. Here’s what ESPNcricinfo’s MVP table looks like. And here are some other IPL 2025 tables that show the season’s best performers in different aspects of the T20 game.

ESPNcricinfo previews the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai

Big PictureWins for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in their previous games helped clear a few lingering doubts for both teams. Mumbai Indians just about held on, but got their opening combination to click. They had tried six combinations in nine games prior to that; with James Franklin and Sachin Tendulkar adding 50, they may have finally settled on one. But the middle-order collapse that ensued and the absence of Kieron Pollard due to injury pose another headache.Super Kings’ win over Deccan Chargers revived their campaign, helping them bounce back after a winless two weeks that involved two losses and a rained-out game. The win also kept them marginally ahead of competitors below them in the points table and with the tournament now well past the half-way stage, Super Kings need to achieve some consistency to retain that advantage.Form guide (most recent first, completed games)
Chennai Super Kings: WLLWW
Mumbai Indians: WWLWLPlayers to watchIt is probably safe to say that Lasith Malinga would be leading the wicket-taking charts this IPL had he played all of his team’s 10 matches. He missed three due to a back injury, but since his return has continued to be his side’s MVP, playing an instrumental role in his side’s two wins in that period.Suresh Raina, after an indifferent start to the season, has finally got going, making 44 and 32 in his previous two games. But he’s been relatively restrained on a slowish Chennai track, and will hope the Mumbai conditions offer him a chance to be play with more freedom.Stats and trivia Seamers have taken 310 wickets thus far in the IPL, out of 464, almost 67%. Spinners, though, have been marginally more economical, going at 7.26 an over as opposed to 7.82 * Fifteen matches thus far in the IPL have gone into the last over.Quotes”Franklin gives us stability (in the top order), but we are still looking for a middle-order batsman who can fill Franklin’s spot. We have Dwayne Smith (he has joined the squad as a replacement for the injured Mitchell Johnson) and hopefully he can fill that slot.”
“We have the best fielding unit in the tournament but still there are areas we need to improve like with our direct throws. For a team, there is always some scope of improvement.”

Confira abaixo as declarações.

Sempre respeitando a autoridade do árbitro, óbvio.

Player suspicions allayed by Howard

Suspicions and doubts about the priorities of Cricket Australia’s management have filtered steadily out of the Australian dressing room

Paul Marsh: “Players are starting to feel that the performance of the Australian cricket team is the high priority it should be for CA, whereas for the past few years this has rightly been questioned”•Getty Images

Suspicions and doubts about the priorities of Cricket Australia’s management have filtered steadily out of the Australian dressing room in the months since the appointment of Pat Howard as the team performance manager.A year ago the players readily questioned the priorities of CA and its desire to equip the team in the best possible way to win matches, to the point that management and selectors were banned from the dressing room during the ODI series against England. Now there is confidence that Howard and the coaches and selectors underneath him are committed to creating the best environment for success, and will not allow compromising decisions to be made.Causes for most anger in the ranks last summer included the 17-man squad named in advance of the first Ashes Test in Brisbane, and the refusal to release Michael Hussey and Doug Bollinger from the Twenty20 Champions League to prepare for a Test series in India.Such decisions fell within the remit of Michael Brown, the former general manager of cricket operations. Brown has left CA to oversee preparations for football’s 2015 Asian Cup, having been shifted to one side by Howard’s appointment. Paul Marsh, the chief executive of the Australian Cricketers Association, said the new structure had bred trust.”Under the new structure I’m reasonably confident that we won’t see another 17-man home Ashes squad announced just to keep the marketing people happy,” Marsh told ESPNcricinfo. “What the players want more than anything is a support structure that gives them the best possible chance to be successful. I don’t think the previous structure always allowed this but the new structure has an individual in Pat Howard who is accountable solely for team performance.”This has quickly created an environment where the players now feel that they have someone within CA senior management who is completely aligned to the goals of the team. The immediate impact of this is that players are starting to feel that the performance of the Australian cricket team is the high priority it should be for CA, whereas for the past few years this has rightly been questioned by the playing group.”Brown’s former role was unwieldy, covering an enormous amount of ground. It included the team, playing conditions, disciplinary measures, television rights and pay negotiations. He was seldom heard from by the players unless it was a call to inform them of their selection in the national team, or to notify them of a disciplinary breach.By contrast, Howard is a consistent presence around the team in his oversight role, sitting in on selection meetings and working closely with the head coach Mickey Arthur. His background as a former rugby international and coach has also given him a closer appreciation of high performance sport and its demands than Brown was able to call upon.Ultimately accountable for the performance of the team, Howard has said he is less an auditor than an agent of collaboration, between players, coaches, the national team and the states.”I don’t see myself as looking over their shoulder, I see myself as enabling that performance – we’ve all seen there’s a lot of talent there – and making sure that talent gets an opportunity is really important,” Howard said. “And I think most of the Australian public have seen, given a chance there are some guys who are really well and truly up to it or can grow into it.”That’s one of the great stories of the summer. Everyone, be they players or management, want the same thing, they want Australia to win, to perform, and they bring to the table lots of ideas about how we can improve. If we can bring that collaboration to the table then as a consequence we can only improve over the next couple of years.”The strong results seen so far against India have suggested that the team is benefiting from the change, and Hussey said there was an air of refreshment that had come from the knowledge that everyone was working towards the same goal.”Certainly winning breeds fun, but also there’s been so much change around the team, and I think for a while there everyone did get a bit insular, and it was a bit quieter, we were a bit more intense,” Hussey said. “But I think now the new coach has set in, the new selectors have stepped in, the communication’s been really good, everyone knows where they stand, they know what their roles are, and they know where they want to take the team in the future.”I think that gives everyone a lot of heart and a lot of confidence. And then you can really be yourself and really see the characters come through in the team.”

Bracewell, Nicol and Aldridge in limited-overs squads

New Zealand have included three uncapped players in their ODI and Twenty20 squads for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, as well as two for the one-off Test

New Zealand have included three uncapped players – Doug Bracewell, Rob Nicol and Graeme Aldridge – in their ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, and two – Bracewell and Dean Brownlie – for the one-off Test in Harare. Fast bowler Kyle Mills, who last played in 2009, returns to the Test squad along with offspinner Jeetan Patel and batsman BJ Watling. These are the first squads selected after New Zealand Cricket appointed John Buchanan as its director of cricket and Kim Littlejohn as national selection manager. It is also New Zealand’s first series since their 2011 World Cup campaign ended in March, and therefore the first under Ross Taylor’s captaincy, after Daniel Vettori stepped down and said he would be taking a break from one-day and Twenty20 cricket in an effort to prolong his Test career. The limited-overs squad contains 11 players who featured at the World Cup, along with batsmen Watling and Nicol, and allrounders Bracewell and Aldridge. The World Cup players not in this squad were injured fast bowlers Tim Southee and Hamish Bennet, batsman Jamie How, fast bowler Daryl Tuffey, whose contract with NZC was not renewed, and retired allrounder Scott Styris.”Rob Nicol has earned his place after having good domestic performances last season. We think that the wickets in Zimbabwe, it is important to have good spin options and he provides us with extra cover in the batting,” New Zealand coach John Wright said. “The retirement of Scott Styris has given both Rob and James Franklin the opportunity to work for that space.”Bracewell did very well at the Emerging Player Tournament so that led to his selection in both tour parties. Like Bracewell, Brownlie had a good EPT and strong domestic form so has earned his place. He’s a player we think a fair bit of. Watling comes back to serve in both squads as batting cover and also as wicketkeeping cover for the ODIs and Twenty20s.”Jeetan is further down the line than his competitors in terms of experience and we’ve been encouraged by what we’ve seen at the camp. This is a good opportunity for Kyle Mills. He is keen to play the five-day form of the game so he’ll take his chance with the other four bowlers. He has done a lot of training this winter and is keen to play.”Littlejohn was hopeful Southee would be fit for the Test series. Southee had injured his knee while training for the Champions League Twenty20. “We will continue to closely monitor Southee’s fitness in the build-up-up to tour and are hopeful that he will recover in time for the Test series,” Littlejohn said. “His left knee will be reassessed by our medical staff with final decision on his availability taken in the next couple of weeks.”Batsman Daniel Flynn was unavailable for selection because he had aggravated a pre-existing hip injury at the pre-tour camp.ODI and Twenty20 squad: Ross Taylor (capt), Graeme Aldridge, Doug Bracewell, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Andy McKay, Kyle Mills, Rob Nicol, Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson, Luke Woodcock.Test squad: Ross Taylor (capt), Doug Bracewell, Dean Brownlie, Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Andy McKay, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Daniel Vettori, Kane Williamson, BJ Watling, Reece Young.

Concerns galore for Bangalore on eve of key clash

Two days before India and England play their high-voltage Group B World Cup match, Bangalore finds itself full of questions. Friday began with Virender Sehwag being struck on the ribcage in the nets and the BCCI requesting the media to “refrain” from going after players for interviews before the match. It ended with a heavy downpour over the city that suddenly caused another round of worry for the teams, organisers, ICC and broadcasters. In between, the uncertainty over tickets – which led to the police baton-charge yesterday, and also to the ICC asking Sharad Pawar to intervene – continued, with the number of unsold tickets still unclear.Sehwag’s injury this morning – he was hit on the left ribcage – came during a training session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium but he is currently under medication and is expected to be fit for the England game, according to a BCCI press release. “A thorough examination has been done and a scan is not required,” Indian team manager Ranjib Biswal said. “There is no major worry and he is fit enough to play.” The Indians trained on a different set of wickets to the ones they have over the last two days, and some of them are said to have found that their practice pitches had some uneven bounce. Sehwag was batting at the centre wicket of the NCA when he was hit on the ribs by one of the local net bowlers. The worry around him had dissipated by the afternoon. The BCCI’s release with the Sehwag injury update ended with a request to the media to “refrain from constantly contacting the members of the Indian cricket team on phone / SMS for interviews / bites as players would like to concentrate on the ongoing World Cup matches.”The immediate ticket crisis was overshadowed by the weather, which suddenly loomed as a threat over Bangalore on Friday evening. The game against England was moved from Eden Gardens in January. All weather reports, however, indicate that the skies will be clear on Sunday.Meanwhile, the Bangalore police have said the match will be played in a secure environment for both players and fans, unlike yesterday’s incident when people queuing up for tickets were baton-charged. “We will deploy about 3,000 policemen, including 700 traffic police in and around the stadium to ensure foolproof security for the match,” Shankar Bidari, the Bangalore police commissioner, told .”Special security will be provided for hundreds of English fans expected to arrive in the city to watch the match,” Bidari said. “Keeping in view the global threat perception, we are taking all precautions, including intelligence-gathering to prevent undesirable elements entering the stadium.”The police crackdown over people trying to buy tickets outside the stadium has disturbed many of the English contingent – team, media and fans – in the city, Stuart Broad, the England fast bowler, said he was “shocked” by it but did, however, add that the England team were satisfied with the security being offered to them in Bangalore. “It is shocking to hear people getting hurt in something as light as queuing up for a cricket ticket. No one likes to see that. So obviously, we are disappointed that happened. But security-wise we felt very safe as a team. We have been looked after very well by the police who have been fantastic. But it’s awful to hear of what happened at the ground.”Bidari said it was unfortunate that the police had to use force to control the crowds outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and Ratnakar Shetty, the World Cup tournament director, apologised to fans. “We are sorry the fans have been let down,” Shetty said. “We understand their sentiments but we can’t do much.”Shetty’s helplessness stems from the ticketing commitments the organisers have towards the board’s member associations, members of the host state associations, the ICC and sponsors, which have led to very few tickets being left for the public. Local state associations distribute tickets through varying means, some through clubs, or member bodies, with the number of public tickets always being squeezed out to a small percentage of the ground capacity. The situation was further complicated for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) by the demands of government and other agencies. A KSCA official said one team of tax officials arrived at the association office on Friday morning and announced that they wanted to conduct an enquiry. When asked whether they could come back later, the officials said the enquiry could not wait. In the end, though, the officials agreed to leave – with 20 tickets for Sunday’s game. With the public sale of tickets having been completed and tickets distributed to members and clubs, the KSCA is now tackling the many demands being made to them by the BCCI’s 25 state associations who can ask for 25 tickets each. The 4500 individual members of the KSCA have also been given about 7000 tickets. There is some possibility that should a large number of public tickets be returned into the system through cancellations due to the last minute change of venue, more tickets may be put on online sale.
